Freelancing made my credit score drop suddenly

I didn't plan for the income changes. How do you keep your score stable with irregular pay?

My score tanked 40 points last year when a card company did a random income check. Freelance deposits looked like chaos to their system. Now I keep a separate account where I dump a flat rate from every client check, and pay all bills from that. It makes the bank statements look boring and steady.
