Changed my mind about credit monitoring after seeing my score jump 80 points in 4 months
I was always against paying for credit monitoring services because I figured free apps did the same thing. But then I got a notification about a collections account I had no memory of from a doctor visit in Phoenix back in 2019. The free apps just showed a generic alert but the paid service I tried for a month gave me the exact account number and the doctor's office phone number. I called them up and it turned out to be an insurance billing error that they fixed in 15 minutes. Once that removal hit my file my score went from 612 to 692 in just four months. Now I'm wondering if anyone else had a surprise collection pop up that wasn't even real or if I just got lucky.

Oh great, so now I gotta worry about random doctor bills from years ago haunting my credit like a ghost. Next thing you know I'll get a collection notice for a co-pay I didn't pay in 2015 because I moved and "forgot" to update my address.

Used to think they were just making a big deal out of nothing, but now I totally see how that "out of sight, out of mind" thing can ruin your credit without you even knowing. Got a bill from a dentist I visited in 2019 show up on my report last month, and I honestly had zero memory of ever even owing them money. It's wild how something that small can just sit there and bite you years later like a forgotten snake in the grass.
