Vent: My notebook looked like a mess for months, then I saw a single coffee stain.

I kept a small notebook in my bag for writing ideas, and for maybe four months it was just random words and half-thoughts. Then last Tuesday, I spilled some coffee on a page and the stain looked like a weird little island. I started writing a story about a person stranded there, and now every page has a full scene. It made me realize I needed one solid image to start, not just a vague feeling. Has anyone else had a simple, messy accident kick off a whole project?

That loose floorboard thing with @wyatt_fisher41's buddy is funny because imagine if the guy just threw the postcard away and never thought twice. But yeah, a coffee stain accidentally starting a whole story is way better than my experience where I spilled coffee on a notebook and just got mad about the wasted paper. At least you ended up with a cool island metaphor instead of a sticky, ruined page. Sometimes the universe just throws a messy idea at you and you gotta catch it, right?

My buddy tripped over a loose floorboard in his apartment and found an old postcard from 1972. He's writing a whole mystery novel based on the faded message on the back.

That loose floorboard find is how so many good stories start.
