Serious question, does hitting 500 subscribers actually mean anything?

I just crossed 500 subscribers on my writing blog and people are either calling it a huge milestone or saying it's basically nothing when you look at the bigger picture, so which side is right?

Jump right into thinking 500 subs is some life-changing moment. Honestly, it's like getting a participation trophy at a spelling bee. You're proud your mom pinned it on the fridge, but nobody's offering you a book deal or a Netflix special. I hit 500 on my writing blog and spent the next week waiting for the subscriber gold rush. Spoiler alert: it's still just me and my 3 regular commenters arguing about Oxford commas.
