Ran into a retired librarian at a diner who gave me the weirdest writing prompt

Right so was the prompt actually about something weird or was it more of a "this town ain't big enough for the both of us" kind of thing with the librarian? Cause @emma72 mentioned the overdue fines conspiracy and honestly I could see an old librarian dropping hints about the Dewey Decimal system being a cover for something way darker. Like maybe they told you that the books in the horror section whisper to each other at night or that the page numbers spell out secret messages if you add them up. I need to know if this was a prompt about cursed objects or just someone venting about people dog-earing pages, because the tone they gave it in matters a lot for how you'd actually write it.

Sat down right across from them and asked what they had, huh? Librarians are always full of weird wisdom, bet they gave you something about a cursed book or a ghost in the stacks lol. Honestly, I'd take that over another "write what you know" prompt any day. Hope you at least jotted it down on a napkin before they shuffled off to refill their coffee. Knowing my luck, it'd be something about a conspiracy with overdue fines.

Got a good laugh out of the overdue fines conspiracy, honestly that feels more real than any ghost story to me. I mean, I've definitely had librarians give me the side eye over a late return, like I personally offended their entire system. Would probably take the cursed book prompt over a lecture about fines though, at least that one has a fun ending. Hope you get a better librarian next time or at least one with a sense of humor about it.
