Just realized the beta reader who hated my opening chapter was 100% right
A critique partner on Reddit told me my first 3 pages were 'all setup and no story' back in February, so I ignored her and sent it to 5 beta readers instead. Every single one of them said they almost stopped reading before page 2, and one even put the book down for a week. Why do we fight the feedback that stings the most even when a stranger says it for free?

Oh man, that's brutal but so on point. Tbh, the real lesson here isn't about trusting feedback, it's about how we confuse a stranger's short critique with our own precious vision, like we're protecting some fragile gem that actually needed a good polish.
