Can we talk about how many words Tolkien invented for Lord of the Rings?

I just read on a linguistics blog that he made up over 2,800 words for Elvish languages alone. Has anyone else found a cool fact like that about a fictional world?

Oh, so your friend actually found one? Did they try to learn any of it or just flip through it for the guttural sounds and move on? I'm curious if anyone actually bothers to memorize that stuff or if it's just a novelty item on a shelf.

Wait 2,800 just for Elvish? That's insane, he must have had no life outside of that.
