Vent: Hit 10,000 hours on the same tower crane downtown

Ngl, the logbook surprised me when I added it up last night. That's a lot of lifts over the same city block. Anyone else get that weird feeling when you realize how much time you've spent in one cab?

Just a small thing, but 10,000 hours is a full-time year. That's still a crazy amount of time in one spot. Must feel strange to see it all added up like that.

Imagine being the only person who's seen the city change from that exact height. You watched them tear down the old bank on 5th, pour the foundation for the new apartments, and plant every tree in that little park. Your crane is like a time-lapse camera no one else got to watch.

Your crane is like a time-lapse camera" - that's exactly it, @miabennett. I read somewhere that crane operators are considered the "urban witnesses" of a city. They spend so much time above everything that they notice all the small changes nobody else sees, like that one coffee shop that keeps changing owners or the graffiti that slowly fades. Bet you've got a mental map of every rooftop garden and broken light fixture in that whole block. Kinda makes you wonder how many stories are just floating up there in the sky.
