Tried a new way to check my load charts on a big job in Spokane
Used to just eyeball the chart printout in the cab. This time I took a picture with my phone and zoomed in on the details. The difference was huge. Spotted a capacity note I missed about wind speed limits for that specific boom length. Probably saved me from a risky pick last Tuesday. Anyone else use their phone like a digital magnifier for the fine print?

That thing about ground conditions in the footnotes is a perfect example. I always thought the main chart numbers were the only thing that mattered. But last month I zoomed in on a chart for a soft site and saw a tiny note about needing mats for anything over 60%. We had a 75% pick scheduled. It made me stop and actually get the mats out, which I probably would have skipped. Totally changed how I see those charts now.

Ever try that trick with the load chart's tiny footnotes about ground conditions?

Wait, hold on. That's a thing? I've been staring at those charts for years and never once zoomed in on the footnotes like that. Your mileage may vary but I always just took the main numbers at face value. That honestly blows my mind a little. I feel like I've been missing a huge safety net this whole time.
