That 4 year old who asked why I use a tagline on every lift changed my mind
Last Wednesday I was doing a tower crane pick downtown Austin and this kid with his dad was watching from behind the fence. He asked me why I was hooking up a second rope when the load looked fine with one. I explained it's a tagline for control but then I thought about it later and realized I've been over-rigging small stuff for years out of habit. That kid got me to drop the tagline on loads under 2000 lbs with clear paths and it's cut my setup time by like 15 minutes a day. Anyone else ever get a fresh take from a random bystander?

Kids have a way of cutting through all the BS we build up over the years. Reminds me of when my nephew asked me why I always use a level for hanging pictures because "the wall already looks straight to me." He had a point for small frames. Now I only grab the level for bigger stuff and my living room looks fine. That little guy probably saved me 20 minutes of fiddling around last weekend just hanging a shelf.

Honestly, "the wall already looks straight to me" is such a kid logic masterpiece. I love how they just cut through all the adult anxiety about getting things perfect. Ngl, I still use my level for everything because I'm terrified of being that one person whose crooked shelf everyone silently judges. But your nephew's wisdom is making me reconsider my entire approach to home improvement. Maybe I should just let my walls be their natural selves and save myself the hassle.
