I called bull on load indicators for 10 years until I lifted a 12-ton beam with 6 feet of boom out and the thing screamed at me before I could tip.

My old Liebherr never had one and I thought they were just another gadget for green operators to lean on. Was I wrong about safety tech or is there still a reason to run old iron without it?

That's a hell of a way to learn a lesson, man. I really feel for you because that kind of close call sticks with you forever. @parkerk56 makes a decent point about one incident not proving everything, but honestly, your gut was telling you something real. I've seen guys run old iron without load indicators for years and get away with it until they don't. You got lucky, and that alarm earned its keep today. Glad you walked away from that one.

Lucky you didn't tip, but one close call doesn't make it gospel.
