Wasted $300 on a fancy wetsuit I never wore once
Bought a top-tier Orca wetsuit for an open water swim practice last spring and panicked so bad putting it on that I just swam in my trunks instead. It's still sitting in the garage with tags on - anyone else blow cash on gear they were too scared to use?

... actually Orca suits are more like $400-$500 for the top tier ones, that sounds like you got a mid-range model or maybe it was on sale. Still though, that's rough... I did the same thing with a pair of buoyancy shorts last summer, bought them for a lake swim and chickened out after I couldn't get them past my thighs. Ended up just hanging them on a hook in the garage, tags still flapping every time I open the door.

Those buoyancy shorts are a total gamble. Next time, get the ones with a zipper on the side, they're way easier to wrestle into if you're not a competitive swimmer. Had a similar problem with a wetsuit once, ended up using it as a Halloween costume. Water is already cold enough, no need to add a wrestling match with your gear to the mix.
