The 90 second brick drill that fixed my transition panic

After 3 races where I nearly hyperventilated trying to get my wetsuit off in T1, I started practicing the whole strip-to-helmet-to-run part in my driveway every Saturday morning. Turns out timing each step separately showed me I was wasting 40 seconds just fumbling with my ankle zipper cord. Anyone else found a dumb simple drill that cut huge time off their transitions?

Honestly, is there any drill dumber than practicing transition in your front lawn while your neighbors watch you hop around on one leg? I did the exact same thing after I took a full 4 minutes in T1 because I sat down to get my shoes on, like a complete idiot. The thing that helped me was timing just the wetsuit peel while doing the tiny crab shuffle, I saved almost a minute once I stopped panicking about looking cool. Tbh I still forget to unzip my ankles sometimes and end up doing this weird penguin flop that probably looks way worse than any fumbling. But hey, at least now I only hyperventilate a little bit instead of needing a medic. Ngl, your driveway drill beats my method of just hoping the race day adrenaline overrides my motor skills.
