Almost drowned during my first open water swim because I forgot to breathe properly
I was at Lake Pleasant last Saturday, about 200 yards from the shore, when I panicked and swallowed a ton of water while trying to do sighting like the videos show. My goggles fogged up and I had to flip onto my back for like 5 minutes just to calm down - has anyone else had that moment where your training completely falls apart in real conditions?

Wait you swallowed that much water and stayed out there? Man that's wild... I would have been heading straight for shore after that first gulp. Panic in open water is something else though, it hits different than a pool. Your training goes out the window when you can't see the bottom and the water's choppy. I had a similar moment where my goggles filled up and I couldn't tell which way was up for a solid minute. It's scary how fast your body just forgets everything you practiced. Smart move flipping on your back though, that's the only way I've found to reset when the panic sets in.
