Tbh, my clinic's new laser machine broke down right before a full day of hair removal appointments.

We had to reschedule 8 clients in one afternoon, and the refunds basically wiped out our profit for the week. Has anyone else had a major piece of equipment just die on them like that?

Happened with our autoclave last month. The repair bill was more than a new unit. It's the hidden cost of relying on tech. You're not just losing that day's money, you're paying to fix the problem. Makes you wonder if leasing equipment with a service plan is smarter. The downtime is what really kills you though.

Just charge the patients for the "vintage equipment" fee.

Oh, I should point out something about that. The problem isn't really the equipment itself, it's that a lot of places are running older machines that nobody stocks parts for anymore. The manufacturers stop making replacement parts after a certain point, so you're stuck paying a premium for whatever is left in a warehouse somewhere. That's where the cost really spikes. It's less about the age of the equipment and more about the supply chain for parts drying up. Leasing with a service plan does help though, because they handle all that headache for you.
