My mom's offhand comment about my lip filler made me actually rethink things

She just said 'you looked fine before' while we were watching TV last week and it hit me different because she never comments on my face stuff, but now I'm wondering if I've been chasing a look nobody else even noticed.

Flip it around though - maybe she's just used to seeing you one way and change is uncomfortable for her. Doesn't mean the filler was a bad call.

grayperez said maybe change makes her uncomfortable but I think that's a stretch. People who love you usually tell you the truth, not just what's comfortable. If she never said anything before and now she's saying you looked fine, that's probably her real opinion coming out after she's had time to see the results. I've seen it happen with a buddy who got a big tattoo sleeve - his wife said nothing for months then one day just said "I liked your arms before." Sometimes the silence was her being polite, not her adjusting. The filler might look different to you but to her it's just a change she didn't ask for.
