Lidocaine cream before my laser session was a total game changer

Ive done 4 laser hair removal sessions on my legs and the first 3 were pretty painful, especially around the knees and ankles. My tech at the clinic in Portland mentioned I could try numbing cream 45 minutes before, so I grabbed a tube from the pharmacy (about $18) and put it on thick, then wrapped it in plastic wrap like she suggested. OMG the difference was night and day. I barely felt the zaps this time. Has anyone else tried this trick or do you have a better way to prep for laser?
