TIL a 30 year guy at the lumber yard in Tulsa told me apprentices used to hand-cut their own stair stringers, and it got me thinking
I was picking up 2x12s last Tuesday and he mentioned that back when he started, guys laid out stringers with a framing square and a pencil, no calculators or apps. He said "now the young guys can do it in a phone app in 30 seconds but can't tell you why a tread needs a nosing." Do any of you still teach the old layout by hand, or is it all digital now?
