That 'minor' change order I signed without reading cost me $2,800 on a kitchen remodel
Last month I did a small kitchen tile job for a repeat client in Portland. She asked for a 'slight adjustment' to the layout, moved one wall cabinet over 18 inches. I signed her change order form without checking the fine print. Turned out her wording said I was responsible for relocating the vent stack too. Plumber charged me $2,800. I know it's on me for not reading, but this is the second time a client's own form had language that shifted liability. Anyone else get burned by a homeowner's change order template that was way broader than what was discussed?
