Why does nobody talk about asking for photos of the actual job site?
I had a roofer quote me $4,200 for a repair based on a satellite image, but when I asked for recent photos of my actual gutters he backed off hard. Anyone else get a more accurate quote by just asking for current pics before they even come out?

Satellite images are just a starting point, they are not meant to be the final quote. A lot of roofers use them to screen jobs and avoid wasting time driving out to look at someones old gutters when the problem is obviously bigger than what a phone pic will show. Backing off when you ask for photos could just mean they know the quote is a lowball based on what they saw and they don't want to waste their time arguing over details that are way off from the real job.

Tbh that "backing off when you ask for photos" part hit a little too close to home. I'm that roofer who'll nope out of a job real fast if I see a satellite image showing three layers of shingles and a shed that's definitely not up to code.
