Vinyl plank installer changed my mind about prep work

I watched a crew in Spokane spend 5 hours leveling a floor before laying anything, thought it was overkill at first. But after seeing how flat it came out versus my last job where I skipped the self-leveler, I get it now. Anyone else find prep time is worth double what you think?

...and FIVE hours of leveling, before a single plank even came out of the box? That's wild to me, honestly. I mean, I know my own floors have that little dip by the window, but I just figured the underlayment would soak it up, you know? Seeing someone actually take the time to fix that before laying anything down just feels like a different universe from what I do on a Saturday. The flatness thing really gets me though, because I bet that floor is so even you could roll a marble across it and it wouldn't stop until it hit the wall. I always think I'm saving time by skipping prep, but then I'm cussing at the trim for days after.
