Took 4 months to fix a simple drainage problem in my backyard
Had water pooling near the foundation every time it rained. First guy came out, said it was a French drain issue, quoted $1500. Second guy said the grading was wrong. Third guy actually dug down and found a crushed pipe from an old gutter downspout. Total time from first call to fix: 17 weeks. Anyone else have a contractor take forever on something that ended up being a simple fix?

Oh man, that's brutal. I spent 3 months trying to fix a leaky faucet in my bathroom. First plumber said it was the cartridge, second guy said the whole valve needed replacing, third guy just tightened a nut that was loose. I felt like such an idiot paying for three separate visits when the fix was literally nothing. At least you got a working drain out of it eventually. My faucet still drips sometimes and I just pretend I don't hear it.

That story about three different diagnoses is something I see way too often. @nora_park72, how did you finally decide to call that third plumber after the first two were wrong? Was it just frustration pushing you, or did someone give you a recommendation? I think there's a real problem in trades where guys are too quick to guess instead of actually digging in and looking at the problem first.
