Ripped out my own bathroom floor after paying a guy $500
Had a contractor patch our subfloor in the Powder Springs house last March. He said it would hold for years but by July the tiles were popping like popcorn. I pulled up three rows myself and found he never sealed the plywood seams. Anyone else find hidden shortcuts after the fact?

he never sealed the plywood seams" - oh man that hurts. I once paid a guy to fix a leaky pipe under my sink, found out later he used duct tape instead of a proper coupling. The whole cabinet base was warped by the time I noticed. Did the same thing you did, ripped it all out myself and cried for like an hour after watching the tutorial. Now I take pics of everything before the real work starts, just in case these shortcuts become treasure hunts later. It's like they think we won't check but we always do when something goes wrong.

Oh gosh, that duct tape story is awful... I actually read a home inspection blog a while back that said plumbing shortcuts are the #1 thing that goes wrong in older houses. The guy who wrote it said he's seen everything from wire hangers holding up exhaust pipes to caulk used as sealant on roof vents. It's like these handymen think if they hide it behind drywall you'll never find out, but water always finds a way. My brother bought a flipped house last year and discovered the bathroom fan just vented into the attic space instead of outside, all because someone didn't want to cut through the roof. Thirty minutes of work could have saved thousands in mold damage...
