My GC told me to skip the independent inspection on a $450k reno and I regret it
He said his guys had it covered and I'd save $800, but now we're finding bad wiring and sloppy framing that should have been caught. The drywall is already up on half the house and fixing this is gonna cost way more than that inspection would have. Has anyone else had a contractor push back on third party inspections like this?

And then my sister’s builder talked her out of a separate structural engineer on a deck addition because “it’s just a deck.” Three months later the thing started pulling away from the house and we found out the ledger board was screwed into nothing but siding. She ended up having to tear the whole thing down and start over, which cost her way more than the engineer would have.

Oh man, that's brutal. Cheaping out on a foundation or structure always comes back to bite you, doesn't it?
