Lost 300 bucks to a foundation guy who ghosted after the deposit

Called a local outfit in Phoenix to fix some cracked concrete near my garage. Dude seemed legit, showed up on time, gave me a fair quote. Paid him 300 as a deposit for materials. Next week he stopped answering texts, then his number went dead. Turns out he had no license and had done this to two other people on my street. Check the state registry before you hand over a dime, seriously. Anyone else get burned by a no-show contractor this year?
