Guy at the hardware store in Reno told me to get 3 quotes before hiring a roofer, saved me $2,800
I was about to sign with the first roofer who came out because he seemed nice and gave me a price of $9,400. The guy at the hardware store in Reno overheard me talking about it and said always get 3 written quotes minimum, no exceptions. I got two more and the lowest one was $6,600 for the same shingles and same warranty. The first roofer wouldn't even budge when I showed him the other quotes, he just said his price is his price. I ended up going with the $6,600 guy and the roof has been fine through two winters now. I'm curious how many people just sign with the first contractor who shows up at their door. Also wondering if anyone here has a rule about how many quotes is actually enough.
Man, $2,800 is a huge chunk of change to save just by making a couple phone calls. Did that first roofer ever try to call you back and drop his price once you walked away?
