Spent $1,400 on scheduling software for my crew and went back to a whiteboard in 3 months
Everyone in the construction management groups keeps pushing software for tracking jobs and I get why, but I dropped $1,400 on a year of one of the big ones for my 8 man crew and it was a waste. Half the guys never opened the app, so I was typing their hours in at night anyway, which took longer than the paper sheets we ran before. The kicker was a job in Elgin where a sub never saw the schedule update and showed up two days late, and nobody caught it because it only lived in the software. I switched back to a whiteboard in the trailer and a group text, and we have not missed a start date since March. The $1,400 stung but the real cost was me spending my nights doing data entry instead of bidding work. Curious if anyone here actually got their field guys to use an app daily, and what made it stick.
