Question about a bad software demo that cost me a day
A vendor gave me a slick demo of a new scheduling tool, but it couldn't handle our basic subcontractor change orders. Wasted a full day trying to make it work before we had to scrap it. Has anyone else been burned by software that looked good in a presentation?

Learned to ask for a sandbox demo with our actual data first. Saved us from a few other bad fits that way. The sales pitch is always perfect, the real test is your own workflow.

That's a great way to see past the marketing fluff.

Oh man, that's the worst feeling, like when you buy a fancy new tool and the handle falls off the first time you try to use it. Been there more times than I'd like to admit (my garage is full of shiny, useless things). A slick demo is just a magic trick, and the real work is always the messy part they don't show you. Campbell's got the right idea with testing your own data, because nothing ruins your day faster than software that can't do the one basic thing you need.
