Old superintendent in Raleigh told me to stop using laser levels for rough framing

He said string lines are faster and more accurate for wall layout, and after fighting with a $400 laser on a 3-story apartment job I finally tried his way. Has anyone else ditched the high tech stuff after getting shown an old school method?

...and it's the same pattern I've seen with a lot of the new kitchen gadgets my kids buy me. They complicate things that used to be simple, like a $200 vegetable chopper when a sharp knife does it quicker with less cleanup. Sometimes the real breakthrough isn't a new tool, it's remembering how well the old one worked all along.

10 stories in, my cheap chalk line never needs batteries or drops a signal.
