My old super in Dallas told me to stop doing daily standups in the trailer, and I finally get it
I used to run a 20 minute standup every morning with my crew of 12, inside the trailer, coffee in hand. My old super pulled me aside after a pour and said I was burning daylight while guys stood around. He said give them the plan on the slab, point at the actual work, and let them scatter. I fought it for a month until a rain delay put us behind on a $1.4M job. Tried it his way, 5 minutes at the deck edge, and we picked up almost an hour a day. Anybody else run their huddles out in the field instead of a meeting room?
Man, yes. We stopped doing trailer meetings years ago. Now I keep a set of plans on a piece of plywood and walk the guys to each spot, point at what's getting done that day, and they take off. Takes me 5 minutes tops and I can see if the rebar is laid right while I'm out there. Saves you the walk back and forth too.
