Foreman asked why my concrete crew kept finishing late, and the answer was sitting on my own clipboard
About 6 months ago on a mid rise job in Columbus, I kept missing pour deadlines by 45 minutes to an hour and blamed it on the batch plant and traffic. One afternoon my foreman grabbed my daily log and asked why every task on it was written down in order of when I remembered it, not when the crew was actually scheduled to do it. Turns out I was handing out assignments off a list that was two hours out of date every morning, so the guys were standing around waiting on me to sort it out. I switched to writing the sequence the night before with actual clock times next to each one, and we hit the next 5 pours on schedule. Anyone else ever catch themselves blaming the site when the problem was just their own paperwork?
Made this exact mistake on a bridge rehab job two summers ago and it cost us almost a full day every week. I was writing out the deck pour sequence from memory at 6am while my coffee was still kicking in, so the finishers would show up ready to go and the pump truck wouldnt be there for another hour because I had the order backwards. Started texting myself the plan at night with times like 7:15 pump on site, 7:45 first truck, and it was night and day. My foreman stopped giving me that look and honestly the guys quit griping so much too.
