Picked the shady tree service over the certified arborist

Ngl I went with a crew off Craigslist to trim a big oak near my house for $400 instead of the licensed guy who quoted $1,200. They topped the whole thing and now it's dropping branches every storm. Has anyone else had a cheap tree job backfire like this?

Man I gotta say I kind of see it differently. Sometimes you get what you pay for with tree work, and cutting corners on a big oak is risky.

OH FOR SURE @william816, you're totally right. I learned this the HARD way last year - paid some guy $300 to trim my maple and he just hacked off branches with no plan, now half the tree looks like a weird mess. Had to bring in a real crew later to fix it and it cost THREE TIMES as much. You get what you pay for every time with big trees, especially oaks which are super touchy about where you cut.
