My uncle told me the moon landing was faked back in 1999 - I just found out he was right about one thing

He said NASA used a specific type of film that couldn't handle the radiation in space. I spent 20 years laughing at him. Last month I watched a documentary that showed the actual Apollo film reels had radiation fogging. Not saying the whole thing was fake, but that one detail he pulled from some magazine was spot on. Anyone else have a conspiracy nut relative who got one weird thing right?

Whoa, I gotta push back a little on this one. I know @baker.riley asked about the fogging, but I think the whole radiation fogging thing gets blown out of proportion. From what I've read, the film they used was tested in vacuum chambers with radiation sources, and it held up fine. The fogging you see in some shots is more likely from poor development or age than from space radiation. A lot of those old reels were stored in corners of warehouses for decades, so they took damage from heat and humidity, not from being in orbit. I'm not saying your uncle's magazine had no point, but one small true detail doesn't prove the whole conspiracy theory. Plenty of normal explanations exist for those foggy frames.

So was the fogging bad enough to ruin entire shots or just some frames?
