I blew 11 months chasing a noise on my truck, and it turned out to be a $4 part I already had
Last year my old Silverado started making this clunk every time I hit a bump, so I figured it was the sway bar links. I swapped those out in an afternoon, no change. Then I went after the ball joints, then the control arm bushings, then I dropped almost $600 on new shocks because a guy on a forum swore that was it. Six months in I had the whole front end apart in my garage twice and the noise was still there. Turned out the actual culprit was a loose body mount bolt that just needed a new rubber isolator I had sitting in a parts bin for two years. Eleven months of weekends and maybe $800 in parts for a fix that took 20 minutes once I found it. Has anyone else gone down a rabbit hole like that where the real answer was staring you in the face the whole time?
