Fell for a $300 'covert' surveillance detector from a shady website
I dropped $300 on a device from SpyGadgetZone.com that was supposed to detect hidden cameras and GPS trackers in hotel rooms. It arrived and was basically a cheap LED light with a paper manual full of typos. The thing didn't even pick up my own phone's WiFi signal. Anyone else get taken by those online spy gear ads?

Man that sucks. "Basically a cheap LED light with a paper manual full of typos" is exactly the kind of thing I'd expect from those scammy spy gear sites. I nearly pulled the trigger on one of those detectors last year for a work trip. Glad I didn't now. These sites prey on people who just want to feel safe, which is pretty low if you ask me. Hope you can get your money back through your card company or something.

Wait, didn't you mention it was for a work trip @john_murphy? I actually looked into those same detectors for a friend and the model I saw was total garbage too. The thing wouldn't even pick up a wifi signal from two feet away, let alone a hidden camera. Glad you dodged that bullet, these sites are getting worse every year with their fake reviews and photo shopped product shots.
