My $80 capture card died mid-stream and my console bros never let me hear the end of it

Last Friday I was streaming a co-op game with my buddy Dave who swears by his Series X, and my PC's capture card just bricked at the worst possible moment, right as we beat the final boss. Dave's been ribbing me for 3 years about my rig being a money pit, and this gave him ammo for a whole week of group chat spam with screencaps of my frozen face. I tried swapping HDMI cables, reinstalling drivers, even did the classic blow-on-the-port trick, but nothing brought it back. Ended up playing offline on my laptop for two nights while I waited for a replacement from Amazon. Now I'm stuck deciding if I should just grab a console for streaming simplicity or sink another $150 into a better card. Anyone else had a hardware fail that made their platform choice feel like a bad bet?
