Just hit 300 FPS in Valorant and I'm honestly confused

I upgraded my GPU last month and suddenly my average jumped from 140 to 300 frames. Does this actually matter for competitive play or am I just wasting power for no reason?} Someone told me monitors cap at 240 Hz anyway so anything past that is pointless. Has anyone else hit a number like this and felt it was overkill?

Wait, are you sure your monitor is even getting those frames to you or is it just the GPU spitting out numbers nobody actually sees?

100% agree with you here. I was running a 144Hz monitor for years and thought I was getting that full 144fps from my GPU, but I checked the monitor's OSD menu and found out it was locked to 60Hz in the display settings the whole time (felt like a complete idiot when I finally noticed). My buddy has a 240Hz panel and swears he can see the difference, but we hooked his PC up to my 60Hz monitor once and he couldn't even tell his game was stuttering until I pointed it out. Meanwhile my GPU is over here screaming at 200fps while my screen caps out at 60, so the numbers in the corner are basically just bragging rights at that point.
