Tried a magnesium float for the first time on a driveway in Austin
The surface kept tearing no matter what I did, so I slowed way down and kept the float wetter than I thought I needed to. Has anyone else had better luck with a resin float over magnesium on hot days?

Yeah I switched to resin on hot days and it made a huge difference for me too.

I live in Phoenix where it hits 115 and I actually went back to paste from resin last summer. The resin got so soft my bowstring was practically sticking to it when I pulled it back. Plus I had a release that felt like it was slipping because the trigger mechanism was heating up. Maybe it depends on the brand you buy but the cheap stuff turned into a sticky mess in my case. I'll take a good synthetic wax over resin any day when the temps are that high.

Ha, yeah I believe it. My buddy out in Tucson tried that same thing with resin last summer and it turned his whole setup into a gooey disaster. He said the string was leaving dents in the wax and his release felt like it was covered in syrup. @terry_walker you're totally right about the cheap stuff, he bought the budget bin resin and it was basically useless after an hour in the sun. I think the high-end stuff might hold up better but who wants to gamble on that when your bow is at stake? Synthetic wax just seems like the smarter play for anyone dealing with real heat.
