Had to choose between a fast set and a standard mix for a curb repair in the rain

The weather report was wrong (of course) and we got a downpour right after the pour. We went with the fast set, but it still got washed out in one corner, which meant a full tear-out the next day. Anyone ever have a fast set fail on them like that, or did we just get a bad batch?

That someone sprayed it too early" sounds like you're looking for an excuse. Fast set concrete isn't some delicate flower that needs perfect conditions. If it was washed out, either the mix was wrong or you didn't place it right. I've poured fast set in light rain plenty of times and never had a washout. The key is getting it down and finishing it before the water can pool. If you got a whole corner washed out, that's a placement problem, not a weather problem. The tear out was probably the right call, but blaming the batch or the rain is just avoiding the real issue.

Fast sets can be so touchy with water. We had a patch fail once because someone sprayed it too early.
