The dusty power supply fan I ignored for 18 months finally quit

Pulled a tower out of a client's office in Austin last Tuesday and heard that grinding rattle, so I cracked it open to find a 2mm crust of dog hair and dust choking the PSU fan. It died mid-boot and took the motherboard with it, which was a $150 board on a machine they were retiring anyway. Anyone else seen a PSU fan failure nuke more than just the power supply?
