Spent 2 hours on a customer's slow laptop with my usual toolkit, fixed it in 10 with a Live USB
Had a machine from a guy in Mesa that took 6 minutes just to boot. I ran every cleaner I had before a buddy asked if I even checked the drive health first, and yeah, the old HDD was dying. Now I image the drive before touching anything else, saves me a callback every time. What's your first move on a mystery slowdown?
Checking drive health first is solid, but for me the first move is usually yanking the drive and imaging it before I even poke around. Had a guy's PC last month that ran fine for ten minutes then froze hard, turned out the drive was on its way out. If I'd started cleaning temp files like normal I would've been writing on a dying disk the whole time. Cleaners and tweaks can wait, the hardware tells you a lot before you touch the software. Your mileage may vary based on what you're seeing, but slow boot plus old HDD is a red flag I don't ignore anymore.
