Remember when you could fix a boot loop by just swapping the IDE ribbon cable?

Tried that on a 15 year old Dell Optiplex a customer wanted running. The old trick didn't work, and I spent an hour chasing a bad stick of RAM instead. What's the oldest 'fix' you've tried that just doesn't hold up anymore?

Remember percussive maintenance? That stopped working when everything became a sealed glass slab. I miss when you could actually hit things.

My buddy's old TV would only work if you slapped the side... he was so sad when he finally upgraded to a flat screen.

Everything good used to be fixable with a smack and now we just throw it away.
