Pro tip: a client's boot time dropped from 4 minutes to 20 seconds and the fix was not what I expected
Had a repeat client here in Dayton bring in her old Dell laptop that took about 4 minutes to boot into Windows. I assumed it was a dying hard drive, so I ran a health check and the drive came back fine, which confused me. Turned out Fast Startup had somehow gotten disabled and there were 9 startup apps fighting each other, including three different updaters for printers she no longer owned. I disabled the junk, turned Fast Startup back on, and now it boots in about 20 seconds. The interesting part is she swears it got slow right after a power outage back in March, not gradually like you would expect from a filling drive. Has anyone else seen Fast Startup flip itself off after a power event, or was this just a fluke on this one machine?
