DAE ever skip the thermal paste step on a CPU reseat?

I was fixing a gaming rig in my shop last week, and the guy said his temps were still high after I cleaned it. I realized I'd just reused the old paste from a month ago without adding more. Do you always put new paste on, or is reusing it okay sometimes?

Reusing old paste" made me ALWAYS use fresh now.

Honestly it's not just about the paste going bad. Tbh the real issue is that old paste dries out and gets little hard bits in it. That grit can actually scratch whatever surface you're working on. I ruined a nice piece of wood once because I didn't see a tiny dried chunk in there. Fresh paste is smooth and works the way it's supposed to, every single time.
