Client lost 3 years of QuickBooks data, my recovery shortcut saved the day
Last Tuesday I got a frantic call from a dental office in Cleveland where their server had a RAID 5 dropout and nobody backed up for months. I popped the drives into a spare machine, used Linux ddrescue to clone each one, then rebuilt the array virtually with mdadm to pull the files. Has anyone else had luck recovering accounting data this way, or do you usually just hand it off to a data recovery lab?
