Why does nobody talk about switching from a wrist slate to a thigh slate for zero viz work
The first two years on the job I wrote everything on a wrist slate and it kept catching on my umbilical in tight spots, which is a real problem when you can't see your own hand. A diver out of the Sabine yard in Port Arthur told me he moved his slate to his thigh, so I tried it on a 4 hour inspection in 6 feet of visibility and stopped losing my notes. Now I write on my thigh, keep both hands free, and my handwriting is actually readable after the dive because the slate isn't banging off a pipe. Only downside is if you need to write while kneeling, but that's rare. Anyone else run a thigh rig or do you all stick with the wrist?
