Showerthought: my old dive buddy told me my surface intervals were a joke and he was right
He said I was treating a 40 minute surface interval like a suggestion, so now I log every minute on a watch timer before I even think about splashing again, and I want to know if anyone else has had a partner call them out like that.
Man, I gotta say I see it the other way! A 40 minute interval is not some magic number that keeps you safe, it depends on your first dive, how deep you went, how long you were down there. I have done 35 minute intervals plenty of times after a shallow reef dive and felt totally fine, and I have done over an hour after a deep wreck and still took it slow. Your buddy was right that you should not treat it like a suggestion, but watching a timer like it is gospel seems like overkill. The tables and your computer tell you what you actually need, not the clock on your wrist.
