Picked the old Kirby Morgan over the new lightweight helmet, regretting it now
Had to choose between using the shop's new composite helmet or sticking with my old Kirby Morgan 37 for a 3 week job on the jetty in Port Angeles. I went with the 37 because I know its quirks and it's never let me down, plus the new one had a finicky exhaust valve. Turns out the current was ripping harder than the forecast said and that steel helmet got heavy fast, my neck was shot by day two. Swapped to the composite on day three and it was night and day, but I lost two days of production and ate a lecture from the foreman. Anyone else stuck with older gear out of habit and paid for it on a long dive?
