New guys keep calling a 1/4 inch air line good enough for a 6 inch pump
Learned this the hard way back in 09 on a dredge job outside Morgan City, blew a coupling off a trash pump and soaked the deck boss. The book says the hose size is fine, but that is at zero length, and once you add 150 feet of run and a few elbows you are starving the tool and cooking the vanes. I have watched two apprentices in the last three years chase the same problem and blame the pump instead of the hose. If you run a 6 inch pump, feed it with at least a 3/4 inch line and keep the run short. What size supply line is everyone else running on their bigger pumps?
