I finally read the HSE stats on dive fatalities, now I rig my own gear differently
Was scrolling through the UK HSE diving incident reports last night, the 2023 ones, and saw that over half the deaths involved divers who didn't check their own harness or umbilical once they got in the water. Got me thinking about how many guys on my crew just hand their rig to the tender and jump. I used to be the same, trust the last guy who bolted it. Now I do a 60 second self check on every single valve and clip before I splash, even if the tender swears it's good. Anyone else gone down that rabbit hole and come out paranoid, or am I the only one who sleeps better being the last set of eyes on my own air?
